AI visibility for law firms
Marketing Agency for Law Firms
Clients now ask AI engines which solicitor or attorney to call for their matter, in their town. We track those answers prompt by prompt, fix the sources behind them, and keep every claim within the advertising rules your partners and compliance officer sign off.
Most people with a legal problem do not know a lawyer to call. Many now describe their situation to an AI engine and ask who to see: an employment solicitor in Bristol, a DUI attorney in Phoenix, a firm that handles divorces with assets abroad. The engine replies with a few named firms and a sentence on why each one fits.
That sentence carries weight: a client told that three firms handle their kind of matter has a ready-made shortlist. If your firm is absent, described as doing work it stopped years ago, or confused with a similarly named firm, the enquiry goes elsewhere. The Rank Master is an AI visibility agency that works prompt by prompt to get law firms named accurately, within the advertising rules that apply to them.
Questions clients put to AI about lawyers
Legal prompts combine a matter, a place and often a worry about cost. A typical prompt map includes:
- “best employment solicitor in Bristol for unfair dismissal”
- “DUI attorney in Phoenix with good reviews and a free consultation”
- “how much does a conveyancing solicitor charge for a £400,000 purchase in Leeds”
- “personal injury lawyer near me who works on contingency”
- “which London law firms are good for divorce with property overseas”
- “top law firms for mid-market private equity deals in Manchester”
- “immigration attorney in Houston who speaks Spanish”
Each prompt is its own contest, which is why we measure prompts rather than keywords. Our piece on what changes between AEO and SEO explains why that matters.
Where answers about law firms come from
Legal answers often draw on:
- Independent rankings. Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, with their tables and editorial commentary, especially for commercial and higher-value work.
- US lawyer directories. Avvo, Justia, Martindale-Hubbell and Super Lawyers profiles, with practice areas, ratings and peer recognition.
- Reviews. Google reviews for each office and, in the UK, Review Solicitors.
- Registers. The Law Society's Find a Solicitor in England and Wales and state bar directories in the US, which confirm that a lawyer is admitted and where they practise.
- Your own site. Practice area pages, lawyer biographies, fee information and published matter summaries.
Why firms are left out or described wrongly
Practice pages too broad to match a matter
A “full-service” page listing twenty areas in one paragraph gives an engine nothing specific to connect to “unfair dismissal in Bristol”.
Lawyer profiles that lag behind reality
Partners who moved on, missing admissions, old directory entries still placing people at your firm.
A similar name elsewhere
Firms that share a surname are easily merged, so reviews or rankings end up attached to the wrong firm.
No price information
For matters where clients ask about cost, a firm with nothing published leaves the engine to quote someone else's figures.
Recognition that cannot be checked
A directory ranking mentioned without the year, practice area or a link, or an award shown only as an image, is hard for an engine to verify.
How we help law firms win the AI referral
What an engagement looks like
We work practice by practice and office by office: the matters you want more of, in the places you serve. We record what all seven engines say about your firm and your rivals today, then fix your pages, directory entries and the sources behind those answers, with a partner or your compliance officer approving every word. Plans start at $2,000 a month, with custom engagements from $1,500 a month for a single practice area or office; see pricing.
What we deliver
- A prompt map by matter, place and client. Matters such as unfair dismissal, contested probate or mid-market private equity, by office and town, for private and business clients, including the cost and trust questions each asks.
- Practice area and lawyer fact pages. One page per practice you genuinely offer at each office, and biographies stating admissions, practice focus, languages and recognition with its year and source, with structured data for the firm, its offices and its lawyers.
- A directory, ranking and review-profile alignment plan. Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 submissions reviewed, Avvo, Justia, Martindale-Hubbell and Super Lawyers profiles completed, Find a Solicitor and state bar entries matched to your site, and review requests within each platform's terms.
- A claims register signed off by your partners and compliance officer. Every ranking, accreditation, published result and testimonial we propose to use, with its source, the conditions that apply in that jurisdiction and who approved it.
- Price and service pages. Plain fee information for the matters where clients ask about cost, including what the SRA requires in England and Wales (see below).
- A fact-correction log. A partner who left still listed, legal aid described wrongly, reviews merged with a similarly named firm: each traced to its source, with the correction requested and its status.
Your first 90 days
The work follows our method: map, measure, move, prove.
Weeks 1 to 2: map and measure.
- Short sessions with the partner leading each priority practice settle the matters, towns and rival firms, and the prompt map is signed off before anything is measured.
- The baseline runs on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, and the live dashboard opens to your partners.
- The AI visibility audit ranks wrong facts, outdated lawyer profiles, name confusion and technical blockers.
Weeks 3 to 6: move on what engines read first.
- The first practice and lawyer pages are drafted, approved and live by the end of month 1.
- Directory profiles are corrected, starting with the ones engines cite most for your priority matters.
- Corrections are requested for the most damaging errors, such as a departed partner or a dropped service.
Weeks 7 to 12: move and prove.
- More practice, office and fee pages ship at your plan's pace, and the next ranking submissions are prepared with your team.
- We approach the legal publications and local guides engines cite for your matters, where an earned citation is realistic.
- At the month 3 checkpoint we report movement in answer share on target questions against the baseline, and quote the first earned citations.
By month 6, answer share on your core matters is reported engine by engine against the firms you named. We do not promise rankings, instructions or case outcomes.
What you see each month
The live dashboard shows, for every matter and town, which firms each engine names, how it describes them and which pages it cites. The monthly report adds answer share by practice against the firms you named, the directory and review changes made, the claims register and correction log, and next month's plan. Our guide to getting cited by ChatGPT explains how one engine picks its sources.
Illustrative example, not client data:
| Question | Engine | Who is named today | Sources cited | What we do next |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| employment solicitor in Bristol for unfair dismissal | ChatGPT | Rival A, Rival B | Review Solicitors, Legal 500 | Publish an unfair dismissal page with SRA price information |
| DUI attorney in Phoenix with a free consultation | Google AI Mode | Rival A, Your firm (third) | Avvo, Google reviews | Complete Avvo profiles for both DUI attorneys |
| top firms for mid-market private equity in Manchester | Perplexity | Rival B | Chambers and Partners | Prepare the next Chambers submission for partner sign-off |
| does Your firm offer legal aid | Gemini | Your firm, described wrongly | An old directory entry | Log the error and request the correction |
What we need from you
- Named approvers: a partner for each priority practice, and your compliance officer to sign off every page, profile and claim before it is published.
- Access to your CMS, Google Search Console, analytics, Google Business Profiles and your directory and review accounts.
- Your priorities: the matters you want more of, the offices and towns that serve them, and the firms you lose instructions to.
- Facts only you hold: admissions, recognition with its year, fee information and any results clients have agreed can be published.
- Approvals within a few working days. A lawyer page that waits for sign-off leaves the old profile, and the engine's old answer, in place.
Advertising rules and what engines repeat
Anything we write for your site or directory profiles is your marketing, so it must meet the SRA's rules in England and Wales and the state bar rules wherever your US lawyers are admitted. Two areas come up often.
Price and service information. The SRA Transparency Rules require firms in England and Wales that advertise certain services, such as residential conveyancing, uncontested probate and employment tribunal claims for unfair or wrongful dismissal, to publish price and service information. Engines need the same information to answer cost prompts.
Specialist and certification claims. Under the ABA Model Rules, on which state rules are largely based, a lawyer should not claim to be certified as a specialist unless an approved organisation has certified them. State versions differ, so we follow yours and describe practice focus in plain terms.
Testimonials, past results and superlatives carry conditions in many jurisdictions, so each one goes into the claims register for sign-off. Accountancy and consulting firms can read about our work in professional services.
Questions
Do legal directories still matter if clients use AI?
Yes. Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, Avvo, Justia, Martindale-Hubbell and Super Lawyers are the kind of sources engines typically draw on when they explain why a firm is recommended. We check your entries and submissions for accuracy and consistency, and treat them as part of the AI visibility work.
Can you make sure AI calls us the best firm in our city?
No one can promise that, and chasing the word 'best' raises advertising questions of its own. What we can do is give engines accurate, checkable facts about your practice areas, people, offices and recognition, and make sure those facts appear on the sources they read. We then report monthly on how often you are named for the prompts that matter to you.
Who signs off what you publish?
A partner or your compliance officer approves every page, profile and claim before it goes live. We keep a source for each statement, such as a directory ranking, an accreditation or a case outcome the client has agreed can be published, so reviewers can check it quickly.
Do you work with both UK and US firms?
Yes, with a separate prompt map for each market. The sources differ: Review Solicitors and the Law Society's Find a Solicitor are UK sources, while Avvo, Justia and Super Lawyers are US ones. The advertising rules differ too, so we write to the rules of each jurisdiction you practise in.
